WCG’s founder on one key piece of advice for small NGOs

The most surprising part of her shift from the private to nonprofit sector was how competitive it is to secure funds, Saundra Pelletier, CEO of Evofem and of  WCG, told Devex at Women Deliver 2016.

The money, she quickly learned, seemed to be going to organizations that had been around longer and had established relationships with donors.

“I thought: ‘We’re going to have to find another way to sustain ourselves,’” Pelletier said.

The answer to the sustainable change she was after? Public-private partnerships.

There are many globally conscious investors who understand, for example, that women having access to sustainable contraception is going to have an economic impact, Pelletier explained. So if you can figure out as a nonprofit how to partner with other nonprofits to complement your skill set, you can then appeal to the larger private sector.
